Page, Arizona

On our journey back to Yuma, we stopped in Page, Arizona to tour Antelope Canyon. I've seen so many beautiful pictures of this slot canyon, and wanted to see it for myself. Kevin is always a sport taking me on these adventures!

Yesterday we toured the upper canyon with one of the six companies you can use. The canyons are on Navajo land. The only way to see them is through one of their tours. They drove us from their storefront in Page to the canyon entrance. The last three bumpy miles were off road in a wash.

From the top, you can barely see that there is a slot canyon down there.

The canyon was indeed beautiful. Get ready for a lot of pictures!

Back to the parking area.

After our tour, we drove to the Horseshoe Bend scenic overlook. It is part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The city of Page owns the parking lot, so it's $10 to park.

The path to the overlook is about 1.5 miles round-trip, with a gradual incline all the way back. The view of the bend in the Colorado River is worth the walk!

The surrounding area is also beautiful. The Horseshoe Bend overlook is in that hole on the left.

This big sign is at the trailhead.

This morning we headed to the Glen Canyon Dam Visitor Center. The dam on the Colorado River was completed in 1963. We had been here for a tour of the dam in 1996, but thought we'd revisit as long as we were here. Unfortunately, due to the ridiculous government shutdown, we were greated by this sign.

There is an overlook outside. Building the dam created Lake Powell, the second largest reservoir in the country. It flooded much of the Navajo land.

This afternoon we are headed to Las Vegas. Scenery along the way in Utah, Arizona and Nevada has been spectacular!!
